Transgender Rights Statement

Trans people are people.

All people have human rights, including the right to safety, bodily autonomy, public access and dignity.

Trans advocates are not asking for any rights that cis people do not have.

Trans people have the right to safely dress as they choose, use the name they choose and behave as they choose without doing harm, as all people do.

Trans people have the right to safely access public space and be allowed dignity within those spaces, as all people do.

Trans people have the right to use the language they choose to refer to themselves and have this language adhered to, as all people do.

Trans people have the right to use what ever health care makes them feel healthiest in their bodies, including ‘cosmetic’ healthcare, as all people do.

Bigotry is believing that all members of a demographic group are dangerous or disgusting, including citing the behaviour of a minority of the group to justify this belief. For example, “all black men are violent” or “all gay people are pedophiles”.

Transphobia is the bigotry of believing that all trans people are dangerous or disgusting, including when citing the behaviour of a minority of trans people to justify this belief.

The process of dehumanising a group as dangerous or unnatural, seeking to remove their rights and seeking to eradicate them is fascism. The action of eradication of a group of people is genocide.

Describing trans people as dangerous and unnatural, seeking to remove trans people’s rights to safety, health care, bodily autonomy and dignity, and then seeking to eradicate trans people through conversion therapy, is fascism.
